The Beautiful Flathead Valley
Quaintly snuggled on the shores of the 28-mile long Flathead Lake you'll find the appropriately-named Lakeside.
Lakeside is nestled on the western shore of the Lake with sweeping views of the Swan Mountain Range. Quaint, festive, and friendly, this little town of about 3,000 residents will steal your heart if you give it even half a chance. Lakeside has dining and overnight accommodations, gas, groceries, a volunteer-staffed library, and a lumberyard. Charter fishing and other watercraft rental can be found along the lakeshore as well as several public lake access sites.
The west shore's newest recreational addition is Blacktail Mountain Ski Area. Surrounded by 1,000 acres of National Forest, vistors enjoy unlimited visibility and 24 uncrowded groomed runs over more than 13 miles of terrain. In the north end of the Flathead Valley is Big Mountain Ski and Summer Resort, with a base elevation of 4,500 feet and vertical drop of 2,500 feet. With over 3,000 acres of terrain, there is something for everyone.
The Flathead Valley area also plays host to eight golf courses within a 45 minute drive, 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, indoor and outdoor tennis, swimming, world class hunting and fishing and numerous lakes and rivers. Glacier National Park is close by, only an hour's drive from Flathead Lake, so residents and visitors can enjoy the majesty and serenity of this "quiet" national park year-round.
